Abstract

In order to gain power, impose order as well as a new social structure, Franco’s regime used emotions as a repressive tool against people. Based on a research project on the impact of the Spanish Civil War carried out in Tolosa (Basque Country), this paper focuses on three concepts –famine, fear and envy– constantly repeated by those who underwent the war’s aftermath and the first period of Francoism, pointing out the way they are related to emotions.
