Managing emotions in the research process: Ethnography in contexts of violence

Abstract

In 2009 various people I had previously built a relationship with were murdered during fieldwork carried out in the Mexican region of Oaxaca. It was the culmination of a spiral of attacks and violence that had been growing in the years previous. Tracing the ethnography in this context of violence posed a series of emotional tensions that have led me to reflect on my research position in fieldwork through the tools offered by feminist methodology and epistemology.
