Abstract

Since the middle of the 20th century, the Guaranis that inhabit the La Loma hills have been systematically displaced, while growing expansions in the territory have been taken possession of by Ingenio San Martín del Tabacal; the result of the adaptation to a context where the possession of land disappeared along with the entry to urban life, and they were forced to adopt new strategies of survival and reformulate essential cultural issues given that the displacement decimated material and symbolic bases that propagated the social life of the Guaranis. Together with this huge private appropriation of natural resources, a sudden and significant environmental crisis has occurred and continues to get worse, in accordance with the rationality that reigns over the relationship with the environment.
