Anthropology at the foot of the grave. Dialogue with Francisco Etxeberria and Francisco Ferrándiz on the memory of the Spanish Civil War
Keywords:
memory, mass graves, Civil War, physical anthropology, social anthropologyAbstract
The direct intervention in the exhumation of mass graves from the Spanish Civil War is joined by a broader reflection on memory and what has been termed the recovery of historical memory. This dialogue is a unique chance to observe how social and cultural anthropology and physical anthropology unite and complement each other – two disciplines that have taken divergent routes in Spain, a delicate and complex subject where the processes of memory revolve around the dramatic events of 1936.
