Ritual performances and the reconstruction of local life

This article analyses a festive ritual in the town of Okina, in Álava (Basque Country), through studies of performance ritual. A traditional rite is recovered and reinvented with new meanings by families from the town who have a second residence there. The rite allows them to become part of the local life, thus renewing their sense of belonging and identity.
