Abstract

In 2018, the San Telmo Museum in San Sebastian created the Double Museum programme to promote a re-reading of the museum collections through the eyes of Basque artists. In addition to providing the museum’s collections with contemporary works from Basque artists, the aim of the programme is to reflect on museums in the broadest sense, from the building, encompassing the museography as well as the collection. This article deals with the intervention Itzal marra, presented in 2019 by the artist Ibon Aranberri, in which, using funerary slabs as a metaphor, he reflects on the function of museums in Western societies.
