This paper discusses theoretical and methodological issues regarding the potential of ethnography for the research of socio-cultural practices and processes within and beyond the field of anthropology. It also reflects upon its possibilities to encourage interdisciplinary approaches for the study –and comprehension– of social reality. In addition, this paper draws from a research experience to explore the contributions of ethnography to the fields of education and museology, and poses conceptual possibilities as well as political and epistemological challenges for the construction of knowledge.
